When looking for a therapist, ensure they are qualified, insured and belong to at least one professional association which has a code of conduct [e.g. The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC), or the Hypnotherapy Association (HA)].




Never underestimate your own instincts and ‘gut feeling‘. Ask yourself - “Am I comfortable with this therapist?”. No matter how highly qualified or experienced, unless you are at ease with them, therapy is unlikely to be successful.

Do not be afraid to ask questions. Should there be any doubt about the combination of skills utilised, the therapist should be asked directly for further explanation of their therapeutic techniques and methods.

If a therapist is unable to answer your questions, put you at ease, or raises any doubts in your mind - walk away - and find another therapist that fulfils your requirements.
